Seeker update

22 Feb

The planking is all but done. Had to take a little break for successful cataract surgery. Quite amazing. My doctor advised me to spring for the best possible lens, and I’m so pleased with the outcome. Basically I can see like an eagle. But, post op, I have to take it easy for a week. Not easy for me.

I built an attractive staircase ( it doesn’t take any more work to create something attractive) so I no longer have to use a stepladder to climb aboard what is now a boat. Or at least a hull, as opposed to a frame. The ladder is a welcome milestone in boat building. It means the next phase is open.

So, I’ll be framing out for the port lights which, on the scow, will  be more like windows . When that’s done, I’ll move on to the hatches, both large and small, skylight, and companionway hatches. I’ve got plenty of seasoned oak, drying five years, and look forward to doing some finish work.

This winter has been less clement than last, but, not as bad as some I remember. Spending my days lying on my back on the rough stone surface, eating sawdust, has taken my mind of the cold.

I’ll write again once work re-commences.

It is raw outside today, I always imagine what it must have been like to be on a Whaling vessel out at sea at this time of year. The weather can drain your strength and faster than one can or does realize. Do you paper work now, remember the job is not done until the paper work is done.
